IF YOU REMEMBER 2023, NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE WAS REVIEWED.IT'S PENDING FINAL RECOMMENDATION.
WE'VE ALSO ALREADY REVIEWED, REVIEWED THE MECHANICAL CODE, FUEL GAS CODE, PLUMBING CODE, RESIDENTIAL CODE, EXISTING BUILDING CODE, BUILDING CODE, AND SWIMMING POOL AND SPA CODE.
THOSE ARE PENDING FINAL APPROVAL AND RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL FOR ADOPTION.
TODAY WE HAVE THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS FOR THE 2021 INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE AND THE 2021 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE.
THOSE ARE GOING TO BE DISCUSSED TODAY.
JULY 15TH, BUILDING STANDARDS COMMISSION MEETING WILL BE PROVIDED THE PROPOSED CODE AMENDMENTS.
TWO BE PRESENTED FOR ADOPTION TO CITY COUNCIL.
WE SHOULD HAVE ALL OF OUR CODE AMENDMENTS IN PLACE BY THAT TIME, THERE HAVE BEEN A COUPLE OF CHANGES WE'VE MADE TO SOME OTHER ONES ALONG THE WAY THAT YOU'LL SEE AT THAT FINAL MEETING ON THE 15TH OF JULY WHEN IT COMES FORWARD VERY FEW TWEAKS, BUT WE'VE WE'VE GOT A COUPLE THAT WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAW BEFORE YOU GAVE YOUR FINAL APPROVAL ON THAT.
AND THEN WE'LL ALSO BRING YOU SOME UPDATES TO CHAPTER FOUR OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES TO GO FORWARD AT THE SAME TIME. THAT IS THE BILL, THE SECTION ON BUILDINGS AND WHAT THE REQUIREMENTS ARE ON THAT.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE LOOKED AT ADDING TO THAT AT THIS TIME IS SOME INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTRACTORS WHEN THEYE, WHENEVER THEY REGISTER WITH THE CITY OR CITY OF DECATUR.
STATE HAS INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR PLUMBERS AND ELECTRICIANS AND MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS THAT ARE ALREADY IN PLACE FOR THAT, WE HAVE TO PUT A LOCAL ORDINANCE IN PLACE TO HAVE INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERAL CONTRACTORS.
AND SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT DOING, PROVIDE A LITTLE BIT OF PROTECTION FOR THE CITIZENS OF THE CITY SO THAT WHENEVER THEY HIRE A CONTRACTOR, THEY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE SOME GENERAL LIABILITY INSURANCE IN CASE SOMETHING DOES GO WRONG ON THAT MOVING FORWARD.
