A BULK OF THEM ARE IN THE RESCUE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE CATEGORY. THAT WOULD BE YOUR EMS CALLS OR ACCIDENTS, THINGS OF THAT NATURE. THIS IS INTERESTING CALL VOLUME BY MONTH FOR THE YEAR OF 2021, MAY, AUGUST AND DECEMBER WERE OUR BUSIEST MONTHS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WE CAN ALMOST ALWAYS LINK THOSE TO TRAVEL. YOU KNOW, KIDS ARE GETTING OUT OF SCHOOL. KIDS ARE COMING BACK TO SCHOOL. AND THEN, OF COURSE, THE HOLIDAYS ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE A SPIKE UP. AND SOME OF THAT'S WEATHER DEPENDENT, AS WE EXPERIENCED LAST WEEK. SOMETIMES THE CALL VOLUME FOLLOWS THE WEATHER. THIS IS A NEW SLIDE THAT I PUT TOGETHER. THIS IS REALLY TELLING IF YOU LOOK AT THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT. THE AVERAGE LOSS PER INCIDENT. BE IT VEHICLE FIRE BUILDING. FIRE, GAS LEAK OR MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT. THE AVERAGE LOSS FOR SERIOUS INCIDENT WAS ALMOST HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. NOW THAT SEEMS CRAZY TO US, BUT REMEMBER WHAT FEBRUARY OF 2021 GAVE TO US? IT GAVE US THE ICE STORM AND WE HAD SEVERAL LARGE FIRES WITH A LOT OF LOSS DURING THAT TIME FRAME. SO IF WE GO TO THIS PAGE, ONE OF OUR COMMERCIAL FIRES ALONE WAS A HAD A $12 MILLION LOSS ATTACHED TO IT. SO THAT IS WHY THOSE NUMBERS ARE SKEWED A LITTLE BIT. BUT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE IMPERIAL FIRE. THEY LOST AN ENTIRE PROCESS. AND THAT PRICE TAG WAS RIGHT AT THE $12 MILLION MARK. YEAH. SO IT'S VERY INTERESTING. AND THE EVER POPULAR CITY AND COUNTY RUN COMPARISON, 764 OR 27 PERCENT OF OUR RUNS WERE IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREA OF OUR DISTRICT OUTSIDE THE CITY, AND THE REMAINDER WERE IN THE CITY, 73 PERCENT. AND NO, MY TEXAS A&M MATH IS NOT SHOWING THROUGH HERE. WE DID HAVE 10 RUNS THAT WERE ANSWERED OUT OF THE COUNTY ENTIRELY, AND THEY DON'T SHOW UP ON THIS REPORT. SO THERE WERE 10 ALSO OUT OF COUNTY RUNS THAT WE EXPERIENCED. SPEAKING OF OUT OF COUNTY, WE ALL DRIVE TO OTHER LOCATIONS REGULARLY, AND I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY INTERESTING TO COMPARE OURSELVES TO OTHER CITIES SUCH AS CRUM, ROANOKE, SAGINAW, SOUTH LAKE, AND THERE'S A FEW OTHERS UP THERE. WE'RE BEATING OUT SEVERAL CITIES IN TERMS OF CALL VOLUME. AND IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE WE'RE EVERY YEAR WE REPORT JUST A LITTLE BIT HIGHER VOLUME, A LITTLE BIT HIGHER VOLUME. IT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT WE WANT TO KEEP OUR OUR EYES ON AS WE START TO DEVELOP THE CITY FOR OTHER LARGE PROJECTS. IT'S IMPORTANT FOR ME TO TALK TO YOU SPECIFICALLY ABOUT WILDLAND FIRES TONIGHT. WE'VE ORGANIZED A FEW RESPONSES IN THE COUNTY AND THEN WE'VE SENT A FEW FOLKS OUT OF THE COUNTY RECENTLY ON LARGE WILDFIRE INCIDENTS. AND THIS IS NOT ONLY IS IT OUTSTANDING TRAINING FOR OUR PEOPLE, BUT IT'S A GOODWILL MOVE. YOU KNOW, WHEN WE NEED THAT SAME RESPONSE INTO OUR DISTRICT, WE'VE ALMOST PAID IT FORWARD AHEAD OF TIME. IF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING, THESE GUYS AND GIRLS ARE GETTING TREMENDOUS AMOUNTS OF EXPERIENCE ON THESE WILDLAND DEPLOYMENTS. SO IT'S IMPORTANT FOR ME TO POINT OUT NOT ONLY A JOB WELL DONE, BUT HOW VALUABLE IT IS TO OUR TEAM. SO I'LL PUT MY EMERGENCY MANAGER HAT ON FOR A MOMENT. NO ONE WANTS TO RELIVE THE FEBRUARY ICE STORM OF 2021, BUT THROUGH THAT WE ACTIVATED THE EOC AND IT WAS A WEEK LONG OPERATION AND WE PARTNERED WITH THE COUNTY ON SEVERAL LARGE NEEDS THROUGH THAT WHOLE PROCESS. CHIEF CAMPBELL JOINED ME THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME THERE, AND WE HAD VARIOUS STAFF MEMBERS STOPPING BY AND ASSISTING SHORTLY AFTER THE ICE. WE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL FLOOD ISSUES AND WE, OUR CITY'S LOCAL FLOODING PROBLEMS, SHOW THEIR UGLY HEADS REGULARLY. SO THOSE ARE WHEN WE ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER THROUGH EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT. VERY VALUABLE TOOL FOR US AS A CITY. WHILE WE'RE IN THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CONVERSATION, A COUPLE OF BIG PROJECTS THERE ON THE LEFT, WE WORKED WITH THE COUNTY FOR A PROGRAM CALLED PEAK. THAT IS WHERE WE HAVE ACCESS AS FIRST RESPONDERS TO TIER TWO REPORTS. SO THIS IS ANYONE WHO STORES LARGE VOLUMES OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. THEY AND GREG AND I ACTUALLY HAD THE CONVERSATION THIS MORNING. GREG HAS TO DO SEVERAL TIER TWO REPORTS FOR THE CITY OF DECATUR. THEY LAND ON THE BACK END OF THIS SOFTWARE AS HE SUBMITS THEM, AND THEN WE CAN ACCESS THEM FROM THE FIELD DURING EMERGENCY RESPONSE MODE. REALLY NEAT PROJECT, AND IT DID NOT COST US ONE SINGLE CENT. AND THEN WE'RE UPDATING OUR OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS. YOU CAN SEE THE PICTURE I'VE PUT UP HERE. THIS IS THE SIREN THAT SITS NEXT TO THE CONFERENCE CENTER AND THE HOTEL IN THE LAST WINDSTORM THAT WE HAD, AND IT'S HARD TO SEE IT. BUT THE TOP OF THAT POLE SNAPPED. AND SO THAT SIREN.
